Amherst County Sheriff’s Office warns of bail scam

AMHERST COUNTY (WSLS 10) – The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office has received reports regarding scammers calling people asking them to post bail for family members.

The scammers have actually played voice recordings similar to that of the family member in question, according to the sheriff’s office.

If you are unsure if one of your family members is actually in trouble, the sheriff’s office suggests you do one of the following:

  1. Hang up the phone and call the family member in question directly
  2. Hang up the phone and call the sheriff’s office who can assist you in contacting the facility where the family member is claimed to be.
