(WSLS 10) - The Lynch Station woman, charged with child neglect, will be sentenced today in Bedford County. Yvette Hobbs will learn her sentence from an incident which happened in June, when the Bedford County Sheriff's Office investigated claims of a child being underweight and abused. Two other people have already been sentenced in the case. Aresean Hobbs received three years with Shirley Venable receiving one year.

The city of Roanoke will honor former Governor Linwood Holton today. City council voted earlier this week to rename Suntrust Plaza in his honor. A tree planting ceremony will take place and the plaza design will be presented. Governor Holton is expected to be there as well as his daughter Ann who is the former Secretary of Education for Virginia.

Students from the Edward Via College os Osteopathic Medicine will hold a free health fair today. Twenty-four students and four faulty members will be there checking blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels and administering skin screenings. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Roanoke Rescue mission. The health department will also be there until noon giving flu shots.

The Roanoke Valley Center for Sight holds its 9th annual Gift of Sight Day. Ophthalmologists will perform free cataract surgery today for 14 people who do not have insurance.
