WWII veterans honored in Richmond

RICHMOND (WSLS 10) - Virginia honored its World War II heroes Thursday at the University of Richmond.

The VMI band played as active duty service members escorted more than 80 veterans to their seats. The event kicked off a four-year commemoration.

The General Assembly created the Virginia World War I - World War II Commission for the 100th and 75th anniversaries of those wars.

"We wanted the first act of the 75th anniversary commemoration to bring together its heroes, to express our sincere appreciation and our commitment to carrying your stories forward," said Del. M. Kirkland Cox, commission chairman.

The commission announced a mobile museum as the Profiles of Honor Tour will make its way across the Commonwealth.
