Suspect in crash that killed a 9-year-old Halifax Count boy to be in court

HALIFAX COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A Halifax County woman accused of driving drunk and killing her fiance's son will be in court on Friday.

Melissa Rhodes is scheduled to have an attorney appointed Friday morning, according to online court records.

She is facing six charges, including second-degree murder. She was originally charged with felony child neglect and DUI.

State police say she was driving a van with 9-year-old Julian Suttle inside back in August when she crashed at the intersection of Thompson Store Road and Highway 360.

Suttle was flown to Duke University Medical Center, where he died a few days later.
