Spartans One Win Away From Title Defense

Salem (WSLS-10)- In Salem, Spartan supremacy is nothing new.

It's on consistent display year in and year out and the 2016 team is busy leaving their own mark.

Salem is back into the VHSL 4A state finals where they will take on a 14-0 Dinwiddie team for the crown..

The Spartans are coming off a 15-0 state title season a year ago have won 12 straight since dropping their opener.

They are firing on all cylinders after dispatching a talented Dominion team coming into their title defense.

But for the spartans its about a methodical march towards a possible 8th title for the program

"Just as far as playing disciplined football you know we don't coach the state championship any different then the other game.  So we're just trying to do what we've done all year and hopefully we will step up make a few big plays when we need to and just play real disciplined on offense and defense--- and definitely special teams Dinwiddie is extremely good on special teams," says Salem Head Coach Stephen Magenbauer.

"We are definitely just focusing up on what we usually do--- try to perfect the things we do and if we do that we shouldn't have any problem winning this thing.  That's pretty much the way it's been the whole way throughout the playoffs.  We're not doing anything new, just playing the way where and we're getting through this," explains senior center Grey Wolfe.

Salem faces Dinwiddie at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at William & Mary in Williamsburg.
