WRBL – AMERICUS, Ga. (WRBL) – News 3 has just learned from a statement from the Georgia Southwestern State University that GSWU Public Safety Officer Jody Smith has passed away.
Georgia Southwestern State University Interim President Charles Patterson says:

"We have just received word that GSW Public Safety Officer Jody Smith has succumbed to his injuries and has passed away. We offer our deepest condolences to his family during this very difficult time. Officer Smith was a bright, young and energetic officer, and he will be sorely missed."
His best friend, 25-year-old Nicholas Smarr, was also shot during a call and died Wednesday.
