Round Town: holiday cheer

(WSLS 10) - Head to downtown Roanoke Friday night for the second week of Dickens of a Christmas. Bring the family out for the Christmas Parade then stick around and do some shopping or enjoy roasted chestnuts or a carriage ride. Dickens runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with the parade at 7 p.m.

Roanoke County holds its first ever Christmas parade on Saturday. Floats will travel down Brambleton Avenue between Harris Street and Garst Mill Road. The parade begins at 10 a.m.

The National D-Day Memorial holds the Flames of Memory this weekend. More than 4,400 lumanaries will be set up, remembering those killed on D-Day. The lights will shine Friday through Sunday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The town of Christiansburg holds its annual Christmas parade Friday night. The theme of this year's event is "toys, Trains and Candy Canes." The city's Christmas Tree will be lit at 6:50 p.m. with the parade starting at 7 p.m.

Buchanan Rediscovers an Olde Fashioned Christmas as its Christmas parade on Saturday. The Botetourt County Sheriff's Department will act as Color Guard with the James River High School Marching Band, antique cars, clowns and horses also taking part. The parade begins at 4 p.m.

The Danville Symphony Orchestra presents its holiday celebration concert. Some of the selections you will hear include excerpts from the Nutcracker, White Christmas and Sleigh Ride. The performance begins at 8 p.m. in the auditorium at George Washington High School. It's free, but you're asked to bring a canned food donation for God's Storehouse.
