(WSLS 10) - Sentencing takes place today for the Pulaski woman charged in connection with injuries her eight month old daughter received while in her care. According to the Pulaski County Circuit Court Clerk, Tuesday Manning entered an Alford plea in court in August on charges of aggravated malicious wounding and malicious wounding. According to search warrants, eight month old Ava Edwards suffered brain bleeding and arm fractures and a possible skull fracture. Manning told investigators that Ava fell off of a diaper changing table. She faces a maximum sentence of life in prison plus twenty years.

According to a police source, charges are expected to be dropped today against former New River Valley reporter Orlando Salinas. He faced rape and forcible sodomy charges.

Liberty University's Student Osteopathic Medical Association holds Pancakes for Parkinson's today. You will get all you can eat pancakes today from noon to three for $5. Proceeds benefit the Thomas Hartman Center for Parkinson's research.

The community will gather to honor the executive director of the Roanoke Higher Education Center today ahead of his retirement. Tom McKeon is the founding director of the center, serving for the last 17 years. Nearly 9,100 degrees, certificates and workforce training programs have been completed under his tenure since the facility opened in 2000.

Patrick Henry Family Services holds a ribbon cutting and open house today for its new Hope for Tomorrow Counseling Center. The center was founded to offer counseling to the youth of Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Homes, but expanded to offer services to the community. Hope for Tomorrow also has offices in Lynchburg, Bedford and South Boston.
