Southside burial park commemorates 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor

MARTINSVILLE (WSLS 10) – Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville commemorated the 75th anniversary of the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor on Wednesday

About a dozen World War II veterans were in attendance.

Keynote speakers included a local retired lieutenant colonel and a three-star Air Force general.

The sister of the last Pearl Harbor veteran from Martinsville and Henry County helped lay a wreath at her brother’s grave.

“I just don’t know what to say. This is just something I wasn’t expecting,” Marva Cates said when asked what she thought about the day. “I hope the world will get back in peace. The world will have peace and our boys will be looked after.”

Cates says all four of her brothers fought in World War II. They all left at the same time and all came back at the same time.
