(WSLS 10) - A Henry County man will be sentenced today after being found guilty on charges of abduction with intent to defile and a weapons charge. Bobby Branch's wife called 911 to report a domestic incident in March of last year. The dispatcher heard shots fired during the call and alerted the Sheriff's Office. Branch was arrested after a short standoff. His wife was not seriously hurt. Branch was found not guilty of attempted murder.

The Wytheville Community College Concert Band presents its annual holiday concert tonight. The concert will include several Christmas favorites. The band is made up of community members. The concert is free and begins tonight at 7 p.m. in the George Wythe High School auditorium.

Old Dominion University's Center for Economic Analysis and Policy presents it State of the Commonwealth Report today to the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce. It analyzes the Virginia economy and assesses its future progress. The report shows that Virginia's economy has improved since the reception, but it has not kept pace with the nation. The report looks at several different things, including unemployment and wages.

Virginia Education Association President Jim Livingston will take part in a forum at Hollins University today called "Public Education Matters for Teachers, Staff, Students and Communities." The education association's goals include improving student achievement, establishing effective mentoring programs, championing civil rights for students and employees and getting money for public schools. The begins at 5:30 p.m.
