Franklin County volunteers return from helping animals hurt in Tenn. wildfires

FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Workers from the Franklin County Humane Society have returned home after volunteering in Tennessee.

After hearing about the wildfires in Gatlinburg last week, two workers from the humane society packed a truck full of supplies and made the trip to the fire-ravaged area.

While there, they organized medical donations and helped care for animals in need.

Veterinary technician Terri Bentley said some of the animals were in bad shape.

"They have one cat down there that's severely burned. I mean her whole body. Her hair is missing, her feet are burned bad her face is burned. She was found on the first step of an in-ground pool sitting in water so she knew she was is trouble and she knew to go to the water to save herself," said Bentley.

Bentley says the cat has a long way to go, but is expected to make a full recovery.

She said she may head back to Tennessee this weekend to help where she can.
