Changes made at GW Danville to help curb violent crime in the city

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Changes are being made at George Washington High School in Danville in an effort to help cut down on violent crime in the city, especially juvenile crime.

There are now more teachers and administrators helping with random metal detection and backpack checks.

A policy has also been put in place to allow for reasonable suspicion searches of students suspected of being connected to criminal activity.

The changes have been in place for several weeks according to the district's director of safety and security.

At the board's December 1st meeting, the director spoke to the board about the changes.

Tuesday night, a plan to curb violent crime in the city will be unveiled at a special called city council work session.
