Be a Santa to a Senior program looking for volunteers

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Be a Santa to a Senior deliveries are underway in Roanoke, but there's still time to pick up a tag for anyone not yet adopted.

This is the 13th year Home Instead Senior Care's program has delivered gifts to elderly in Southwest and Central Virginia.

Franchise owner Betsy Head said all of the participants are referred by Social Services, so the need is great.

"Every year I get thank you notes after the program that say 'this was the only gift I got this Christmas, I so appreciated the thoughtfulness of the people who purchased my gift.' 'This gift made all the difference in the world to me.' It brings tears to my eyes to read the notes that I get" explained Head.

She said there are still tags available at the Roanoke Olive Garden and Green Ridge Recreation Center.

Organizers ask that if you pick one up, to return it with the gift by Thursday, December 8.

You can drop off any donation on a weekday at the old Vinton Library at 800 E. Washington Avenue between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

If you're interested in selecting a forgotten senior in the Lynchburg area, go to https://www.beasantatoasenior.com and enter your zip code.

Head added that she is also looking for more volunteers to deliver the gifts to the eight counties and three cities served.
