"Bae, Fleek, Rachet, Turnt," Roanoke College professors attempt to decode slang

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A video showing local professors attempting to understand millennial slang words is going viral.

The clip sees staff from Roanoke College, try to figure out the meaning behind words such as ‘fleek,' ‘suh' and ‘bae.'

Some caught on quickly, while most of them were left scratching their heads,  including President Michael Maxey who says "I am really out of touch, I have no idea what turnt means."

For those who are struggling as much as the professors in the clip, here's a list of the definitions of today's most popular millennial slang words, along with the context in which they're used:

  • Ratchet – wretched, not put together
  • Bae – believed to be a shortened word for ‘babe' which also stands for ‘before anyone else'
  • Turnt – getting excited, a lot of high energy, good vibes
  • Suh – a slang term to say hello, example: "Suh Dude?!"
  • On fleek – being perfect or on-point
  • Yas – another word for yes, very affirmative
