(WSLS 10) - The Wythe County Treasurer's Office will stay open late today to help anyone needing to pay their personal property and real estate taxes. The office will close at six instead of five. In addition to paying in person, you can also pay online. Personal property taxes are also due in Lynchburg today.

Roanoke County kicks off the holiday season with its tree lighting tonight. The 30 foot tree stands at the South County Library. There will also be crafts and activities, performances from the Southwest Virginia Ballet and a visit from Santa Claus. The tree lighting is at 6 p.m. with activities continuing until 8 p.m.

The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors holds a welcome reception today for its new county administrator. David Smitherman was appointed by the board last month. He replaces Clarence Monday who is retiring from the position.

The Lynchburg Fire Department will donate the money raised from its Cancer Awareness T-shirt campaign. The money will go to Centra Foundation's Mammograms Annually A Must Program and the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center Patient Support Fund. MAAM is a volunteer group raising awareness about the importance of mammograms. The Pearson Fund give financial assistance to ensure that all patients have access to support services and therapies.

Roanoke City Council will vote to rename Suntrust Plaza today. That area will be renamed Holton Plaza after Governor Linwood Holton. Holton served as Virginia's governor from 1970 to 1974 and was the first Republican governor of the 20th century. Holton served on several boards in Roanoke and was chair of the Republican Governors Association. His daughter, Anne, is married to former governor and Senator Tim Kaine.
