Tow truck drivers have concerns about new crash reporting center

Angela Hatcher – ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Several area tow truck operators have resumed taking calls from Roanoke County Police after a week of not responding to accidents in the county.

The operators wanted answers about how the new crash reporting center will affect their business and customers. Roanoke County Police Chief Howard Hall said drivers will eventually be instructed to tow vehicles to the Crash Reporting Center off Williamson Road.

Cars will not be kept on site at the center, they'll be towed away after reports are made.

Charlie Brown, who operates towing company Brown & Son in Salem, said some operators worry customers will complain about the additional cost.

"If they didn't have full-coverage insurance, now their car is tore up, they've got to have the cost to replace their car," said Brown.  "We're not trying to add these extra costs to them."

The tow operators and police met on Friday. The operators have responded to calls since that meeting.
