Roanoke police lieutenant shaves decades-old mustache for a cause

Angela Hatcher – ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - No Shave November is usually just a month-long commitment, but one Roanoke police officer was dedicated to his facial hair long before he had a cause to support.

Lt. Jennings Tardy had worn a mustache as long as he's been a cop, since 1983.

But he promised Officer Carley Goad if she could lead an effort to raise $2,000 for cancer research, he'd shave it.

On Monday, the department presented the American Cancer Society with a $3,300 check and Goad grabbed the trimmers.

"I can't really tell. When I see myself I will," said Tardy.

The deputy chief told Tardy he can't grow his mustache back for a year.

Tardy told his boss that his wife outranks him and it's up to her.
