PULASKI COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Pulaski County Board of Supervisors and School Board meet together Monday night. They will give an update on the possibility of consolidating the two middle schools – Dublin Middle and Pulaski Middle.  School Superintendent Dr. Kevin Siers says a decision has not been made on if they should renovate or build a new school. An outside company will explore possible sites. The superintendent estimates a new school would cost $30 to $40 million but if the site is already developed it could cost less.

The superintendent will also review a new study about the need for Career and Technical Education changes. He says after a study on the job market to see what skills are needed in the New River Valley Pulaski County may start offering a cyber security course and looking at other programs for agriculture like fish and wildlife management. If there is student interest the new agriculture classes could be offered every other year for students interested in going into careers like game management.

The Assistant County Administrator Anthony Akers says the Board of Supervisors will talk about lobbying for a change to Virginia law that would allow them to get about $1 million dollars in cigarette taxes to use in schools. Akers says right now only 2 of 95 counties can use the money collected in their local counties. Akers says Pulaski County has talked about using the money for school funding.
