"The return of this wet weather has been a blessing," said Botetourt County Administrator Gary Larrowe regarding the lifting of the county's ban. "With the prolonged dry conditions, we are extremely thankful that there were no incidents during the past few weeks. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those who have not been so fortunate."

As a reminder before burning outside, Virginia code requires the following:

  • Clear the area of flammable material to prevent the fire from spreading
  • If the fire is within 150 feet of flammable materials, someone must remain with the fire until it is completely out
  • Anyone who starts a fire that escapes his or her control is liable for damages caused by the fire and the costs incurred by fire departments and forestry agencies that contain the fire.
