Roanoke County Church helping to end world hunger

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS10) - A Church in the Roanoke Valley is helping to make difference. Members at Harvest Ministries volunteered to make food boxes for the Stop the Hunger Now organization and those boxes help feed students overseas.

"it feels great, you know we always try to do something here at harvest to give back to the community," Ron Boyd, a volunteer said.

Stop the Hunger now is a non profit dedicated to ending world hunger. This year leaders in the non profit said they hope to give away 70,000,000 meals and the volunteers will help and package about 13,000 meals.

"To be able to come in and empower volunteers, to be able to reach out to people they'll never meet is unbelievable to be able to give them the opportunity to do unto the least of these is amazing," Tray Light, the Assistant Program Manager for Stop Hunger Now said.

Leaders at Harvest Ministries church said this is the first year they are working with the non profit.

"It's a great project, a great organization, I encourage other churches other civic groups, non profits to get involved it's a great program," Milton Atkins, the lead pastor at Harvest Ministries said.
