Winter Wonderland to light up Roanoke County

ROANOKE (WSLS 10)-Roanoke County is preparing to kick off the Holiday season with the lighting of it's Christmas Tree Monday, December 6.

Starting a 6 p.m., the 30-foot tree will be officially lit in a Winter Wonderland themed event at South County Library.

The free ceremony comes complete with Christmas Carols performed by the Penn Forest Elementary School's "After School Kids" (ASK) Program.

The Southwest Virginia Ballet will perform select dances from a popular ballet and the Bows & Strings Violin Studio will provide more holiday songs in the Auditorium.

Kids can come out and have some fun with winter crafts and holiday themed treats like Snow Owl Ornaments, Penguin Puppets, and Hot Chocolate Friends.

Refreshments will be available during the event and guests can even roast marshmallows before visiting Santa and getting a photo is his sleigh.

The event is sponsored by Roanoke County's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism in collaboration with the South County Library.
