Virginia Tech says Flint water improving

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - New test results from Flint, Michigan showed the water is getting better, but residents should still use filtered or bottled water for drinking.

Virginia Tech professor Marc Edwards presented his team's latest findings on Friday after a fourth round of water testing.

Edwards said lead and iron levels have steadily decreased since August 2015. He also said that Flint water is just as safe as other portable water around the country for bathing or showering, but there is still cause for concern when it comes to drinking.

"There's a scientific consensus emerging that if you're in any city that has lead pipes, no matter what you've been sampling from those pipes, you can never trust the water," Edwards said during the Friday news conference.

The Virginia Tech team said it will continue to monitor recovery efforts with the government and other universities.
