ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Hundreds of Elementary school students got new coats Friday morning. Members of New Life Christian Ministries gave out nearly 400 coats to students at Hurt Park Elementary.  Each child was fitted with the coat to take home. The church says they are trying to follow in the example of Jesus and make sure people are clothed and fed.

"The children's faces to see them overjoyed by the gift that there's receiving today is really warming to the faculty and staff," said Sharon Hicks, Hurt Park Elementary principal.

"I've been in ministry many, many years and this is truly the most rewarding thing I've ever done. I truly love these children and to see their faces and to know that for some of them this coat may be the only Christmas that they have," said Ssharon Atkinson, with New Life Christian Ministries.

Last year they gave out new tennis shoes and socks to each child.
