Victim of deadly Franklin County fire identified


FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS 10) – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in Monday’s deadly fire.

Deputies say 34-year-old Charles Edward Hodges IV died of smoke inhalation.

According to deputies, investigators found his body at the home on Monday, at 12:25 p.m.

The fire happened at about 8:30 that morning, at 330 Crafts Ford Court, which is in the Wirtz community near Smith Mountain Lake.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire by 9:30 a.m., but the home was a total loss.

Franklin County Public Safety is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
