Events happening 'Round Town for December 2-4, 2016

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Dickens of a Christmas kicks off Friday in downtown Roanoke with the tree lighting at 6:15 p.m.. This free, family-friendly event happens annually in downtown Roanoke and includes favorites like roasted chestnuts, carriage rides, street performers, and more! WSLS 10 is a proud sponsor of this event.

The 60th Annual Salem Christmas Parade is Friday at 6:30 p.m. Santa will ride on the fire truck at the end of the parade. All parade entries will be judged and prizes will be presented to the entries with the best marching group, the best religious theme, the best old-fashioned Christmas theme and the best children's group.

Saturday, the Virginia Museum of the Civil War will present a Civil War Christmas program at the New Market Battlefield State Historical Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event, which is free with paid park admission, allows visitors to explore what Christmas in the Shenandoah Valley was like in 1859. Inside the museum, visitors can create ornaments for the museum's tree or their own tree. Admission is $10 for adults with discounts for kids.

Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., The Virginia Museum of Transportation holds its annual holiday event, Candy Cane Express. The event includes a meet and greet with Santa, train rides behind a historic diesel locomotive, "Polar Express-Interactive storytelling" and more.  Food will be available both days.  Regular admission applies, Train rides are an additional $3 per person.

The historic Old Southwest neighborhood in Roanoke celebrates the 37th Annual Old Southwest Holiday Parlor Tour Saturday from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m.-5 p.m.. Visit historic homes decked out for the Holidays! Tickets are $20 and will be available on the dates and times of the tour at the entrance to Highland Park.

The seventh annual Holiday Market is Saturday in Danville featuring more than 100 vendors inside and outside the Community Market. They will be selling holiday decorations and unique gifts, as well as baked goods, seasonal produce, honey and meats. Breakfast with Santa again will be part of the event. The Danville Girl Scouts sponsors the breakfast. The market will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the breakfast will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Admission is free for both the market and the breakfast.

Sunday go on a motorcycle ride for Toys for Tots. Hundreds of bikers will meet at the Lowe's store in Salem starting around 10:30 a.m. We will be pulling out of there at 1 pm and riding through Salem, Roanoke, and Vinton. They ask riders to bring a toy or to donate $10 and the Marines will shop for toys.

The Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade is Sunday at 3 p.m. In Danville. The parade begins at the corner of Main and Broad Streets and ends at the corner of Main and Craghead Streets.
