McDonald's worker who put mustard in officer's drink fired

KSNT – TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - A Topeka McDonald's employee who put mustard into a Topeka Police Officer's drink has been fired after a lengthy investigation by the cooperation. The District Attorney's Office is opening a criminal investigation into the matter.

It all started with a photo shared on Facebook showing a law enforcement officer's soda at a Topeka McDonald's  mixed with mustard has gone viral.

The Facebook group Kansas GOING BLUE posted the photo Sunday evening saying "a McDonald's here in Kansas just served a Law Enforcement Officer on duty a Dr. Pepper with Mustard in a drive thru order. This is extremely unacceptable!!"

The incident reportedly happened at the McDonald's located at 2001 North Topeka Boulevard.

Supervisor at the McDonald's, Gary Vaughn, tells KSNT News the issue has been handled internally but would not elaborate on what that meant.

Tom and Marilyn Dobski of McDonald's Franchisees in Topeka released the following statement.

"All customers, including local law enforcement officers who protect and serve our communities, are always welcome at our restaurants. Immediately upon learning of this complaint, we began our own internal investigation to gather the facts. We are shocked by the isolated actions of a single employee.  This employee no longer works for our organization. We proudly support police officers and all divisions of first responders at our restaurants across northeast Kansas."

The Kansas Highway Patrol tells KSNT News this happened to one of their trooper's about two weeks ago at the same location.
