Danville library offering opportunity to have overdue fines waived

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) – The Danville Public Library is giving you an opportunity to have your fines waived.

The library is bringing back its fine forgiveness program.

Through the end of the year, if you bring in items like canned dog food, liquid soap and tissues you will get $2 off your fines for every item you bring in.

All of the items will be given to the Southside Virginia Wildlife Center.

The library’s circulation supervisor, Nancy Thompson, says she expects this to be very successful.

“People have kids, you check out different items, life gets busy. So, overdue fines do accumulate,” Thompson pointed out. “We’re also allowing people, who if you want to make a donation and you know somebody who owes money on their account, you can actually put it towards that.”

The deal begins December 1st.

Items can be dropped off at the main branch on Patton Street or at the Westover branch.
