Dozens of people were out all night searching for a 73-year-old man who is missing in Botetourt County.
Police say William Weikart of Troutville was reported missing just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
Family members tell police that Weikart left his home around 3:30 p.m. to go for a walk in Greenfield. When he did not return, the family became worried.
His truck was found located near the Cherry Blossom Trail but family members were unable to find him and called police.
The Botetourt County Sheriff’s office put out a robo call around 10:30 p.m. to ask Botetourt County residents to be on the look out for Weikart.
The sheriff’s office tells us at least forty people were searching the Greenfield and Daleville area on the ground and with a plane from Virginia State Police. With the cold temperatures overnight spending a long time outside without the proper gear could be dangerous.
Crews came in about 4:00 Sunday morning but have since gone back out to search for him.
Weikert is described as a 5’8″ white male. He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt and jeans.
