BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - A Cuban culture organization is seeing a spike in people interested in going to Cuba. Dr. Joe Scarpaci, the executive director of the Center for the Study of Cuban Culture & Economy, says since the news of Castro's death the center has received numerous inquiries for trips to Cuba.
He says he's planning on taking a group to the nation around New Years.

"I think the curiosity is what's behind it. To think of Cuba without Fidel Castro, who's been so associated with such an iconic place, is unprecedented," Dr. Scarpaci said.
He also says he doesn't believe Castro's death will change much for the country, as his younger brother, Raul Castro, will remain in control until retiring in 2018 and because a likely successor has already been determined to take over.
