ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Thousands hit the pavement Thursday morning, raising money for the Roanoke Rescue Mission.
While The Drumstick Dash didn't set an attendance record, organizers said it will likely set a fundraising record, meaning continued support feeding the homeless.
12,500 runners and walkers crossed the finish line in the 11th annual race.
For one man in his 70s, this was his third race in two weeks.
"I did Richmond full marathon two weeks ago. I did the Star City Half last Saturday and I'm here today, in twelve days I did three races," explained Harold Ingram.
"My favorite part is just seeing all of the people that wave of runners as they start up Franklin Road," explained Uneita Matthews, Drumstick Dash Race Director.
Money raised on Thursday covers the entire food budget for the rescue mission for a year.
