Eleven families who lost homes to West Virginia flooding receive new ones

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (WSLS 10) - Eleven families displaced by widespread flooding in West Virginia in June will now be home for the holidays.

On Tuesday, five new homes were dedicated in Rainelle and five in White Sulphur Springs. One was already dedicated last month.

These homes were built with about $3 million in donated materials and free labor.

Some of the flood victims have spent the last five months in tents, others at shelters or with family.

The West Virginia floods took 23 lives and caused $300 million in damages.

"This is where our kids are going to grow up," flood victim Brian Day said of his new home. "It's a new beginning, new memories."

The goal is to build a total of 50 new homes in Rainelle, and 42 in White Sulphur Springs.
