Martinsville church bringing joy to children around the world this holiday season

MARTINSVILLE (WSLS 10) – A Martinsville church is helping bring joy to children in need around the world.

Monday morning, Chatham Heights Baptist Church held its final day of collection for the Operation Christmas Child program.

The nationwide program collects shoe boxes full of toiletries and kid-friendly items for organizations around the world which then distribute them to children the organizations serve.

This year, the church collected over 3,000 shoe boxes, the most ever since it began acting as a collection site in 2008.

“It’s a simple ministry. It’s a ministry that’s easy to perform and it’s a ministry that’s needed. It’s a ministry that makes you connected not just to those locally but the rest of the world,” Pastor Mike Hatfield emphasized.

Operation Christmas Child is part of the Samaritan’s Purse organization.
