New water tower to improve pressure, fire protection in Roanoke Co.

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) -Construction of a new water tower that is expected to improve real-estate values in Roanoke County is almost complete.

Roanoke County and the Western Virginia Water Authority funded the construction.

The tower that’s located off of interstate I-581 near the Greenridge recreation center will improve water pressure to nearby residents and businesses.
Roanoke County Assistant Administrator Richard Caywood says the addition will help attract new businesses to the area and improve fire protection for residents.

“For a number of years one of the barriers that we have had in development for the northern part of the county has been the absence of water pressure,” Caywood said.
“So the new water tower, even though there has been plenty of water supply it gives the water pressure you need for commercial development at sites.”

Painting on the water tower was completed this week. Drivers will notice one side welcomes visitors to Virginia’s Blue Ridge while the opposite side is used as an advertisement for Splash Valley Water Park.
