ROANOKE (WSLS 10) – Hundreds laced up their running shoes to participate in the Star City Half Marathon on Saturday morning. The event included a 10k and a 13.1 mile race.
This was the 30th Anniversary for the race. This year organizers created a new course that started near the Visitors Center in downtown Roanoke and took runners through the Star City and along the Roanoke River Greenway.
Organizers said more than 700 people participated in the events. They said this was the first year where the number of female athletes was higher than the number of male athletes participating.
