(WSLS 10) - The Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce will rally the community today, talking about its Small Business Saturday selfie event. It's an effort to get you to shop local during the holiday season. Small Business Saturday is the day after Black Friday. It was launched by American Express in 2010.

The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce holds its Business at Breakfast progrram this morning. The plant manager of the Danville Goodyear Plant will speak. Goodyear is celebrating it 50 years in the River City.

Lynchburg Parks and Recreation holds its first ever Holiday Cheer event today. It's a family friendly event featuring holiday food samplings, recipe ideas, and crafts. It runs from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Miller Center.

Lynchburg Humane Society continues its Holiday Happiness campaign. Today through Sunday, the society will offer $10 adoptions. The promotion is possible due to a grant from the ASPCA Subaru Share the Love Event.

Three marching bands in the region will perform at the Omni Homestead Resort today at the Virginia Music Educations Association Conference. The James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes, the Virginia Tech Marching Virginians and the Bath County High School Marching Band will perform a few selections, followed by a combined performance in celebration of the Homestead's 250th anniversary.

Students, faculty and volunteers at Virginia Tech will pack up books to send to a university in Africa. Over the last year, they have collected 10,000 books. They will send them to a university whose library burned down in a fire.

The Christiansburg Police Department and other agencies around the state will take part in Click It or Ticket starting today. Additional officers will be on patrol ahead of the holiday weekend in an effort to keep drivers safe. All overtime is paid through the Department of Motor Vehicles Traffic Safety Grant.

The Roanoke Catholic community will send off its football team today ahead of tonight's championship game. The team will parade through students, faculty and staff this morning as it loads the bus to travel to Quantico.

The Virginia Tech Police Department invites students to join them for lunch today. Starting at noon, they will be in Dietrick Hall for Buffet with the Blue. Today is the last day for students before Thanksgiving.
