Protest aims to encourage people to express political differences peacefully

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - People in Danville are trying to express their political differences peacefully.

A protest is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the corner of Memorial Drive and Craghead Street.

Friends Sheila Baynes and Susan Dalton organized the protest.

Baynes said she and Dalton are tired of seeing all of the violence and hate happening around the country as people express their opinions about the outcome of the presidential election.

"If someone wants to speak, certainly we will see about allowing that. But, basically we're just going to have our signs and hold them up for people and if someone asks about the issues we'll highlight our concerns," Baynes explained.

In Roanoke, a group is planning a protest against Trump's election at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Statue on Henry Street.
