Danville man pleads guilty in first-degree murder case

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - A man pleaded guilty in court Friday morning in the case of a fatal Danville shooting.

Derek Lamont Hairston, of Danville, had been charged with first-degree murder, armed burglary and use of a firearm in commission of a felony and robbery.

The charges are in connection to the death of 23-year-old Devontaye Jermaine Johnson, on February 24 in the 200 block of Halifax Street.

Hairston is one of four suspects who have been charged in connection to Johnson's death.

Andreus Dewayne Royal, 23 was charged with capital murder, robbery, burglary with intent to commit robbery while armed, use of firearm in commission of robbery and use of firearm in commission of capital murder.

Alexander O'Neal McGuire, 22, was charged with first degree murder.

Jeni Leann Merricks,22, wais charged with being an accessory after the fact to first degree murder.

According to online court records, McGuire and Merricks both pleaded guilty in July, and Royal pleaded guilty to capital murder in September.
