(WSLS 10) – Mountain View Humane reaches a milestone today. Staff will perform the 50,000th spay/neuter surgery. The clinic first opened in Christiansburg in 2010 and opened a second location in Roanoke in 2012. Clinic staff says their work has helped reduce the euthanasia rate in surrounding communities.

The Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation holds an information session about the Community College Access Program tonight. The program makes tuition free for students with a certain grade point average who meet financial requirements. Tonight’s meeting takes place at Hidden Valley High School starting at 6 p.m.

People in Vinton will get an update on the State of the Town this morning. Members of town council will talk about where things stand and provide a look to the future. The event is hosted by the Vinton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Washington Post Associate Editor Bob Woodward will talk about the 2016 election today at Roanoke College. He will talk about what happened and the meaning of the election. Woodward, with Carl Bernstein, uncovered the Watergate scandal that led to the investigation and resignation of President Richard Nixon.

Patrick Henry Community College holds a second information session today for its Big IDEA Challenge. The 30 day challenge gives participants guidance through the product development process as they compete for over $5,000 to help their idea become a reality. The deadline to apply is December 9th with the challenge starting on January 12th.

Vinton’s first craft brewery and tasting room will open for regular business hours starting today. Twin Creeks Brewing Company features ten specially crafted beers. Twin Creeks held its grand opening last weekend.
