WCC trains students to help low-income people clean teeth

WYTHEVILLE (WSLS 10) - Wytheville Community College is partnering with a clinic to help people with little or no insurance.

Nearly two dozen students and staff members are providing dental care to people at the Mel Leaman Free Clinic in Marion.

The students learn proper cleaning techniques and how to advise people on taking care of their teeth.

Administrators say they are glad to know the students are helping those in need.

"They can't believe there are people in the country that are underserved and are so needy as these people are, so it's really heart warming for them to see that these people appreciate that they're there and willing to help them for free," Amber Schuler, the Clinical Coordinator for WCC Dental Program said.

Students go to the free clinic to clean teeth every Friday.
