24-year-old dies after hit-and-run on Williamson Road

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Police say a cyclist is dead after a hit-and-run on Williamson Road.

24-year-old Max Brook, of Roanoke, was found in the 6900 block of Williamson Road on Thursday, at about 1:23 a.m.

Brook had worked at the Hollins Kroger since 2014. Kroger released this statement in response to his death:

Max Brook will be missed by customers and fellow associates at the Hollins Kroger.  Max was a dependable, hard-working, friendly associate with a keen sense of humor.  He regularly volunteered for assignments.  He joined Kroger in 2014 and had performed a variety of jobs.

The associates at the Hollins store and Kroger extend their sympathy to Max's family.  He is in our thoughts and prayers."

Police say evidence at the scene suggests that Brook was travelling northbound on Williamson Road when he was hit from behind by a vehicle between 9:40 p.m and 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be black in color and have front end damage.

Charges are pending and police say alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor.
