ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A group of men and women aimed toward preventing crime in Roanoke is also helping people find jobs. The organization 100 Fearless held a job fair Wednesday.
In recent weeks, members began patrolling high-crime parts of Roanoke.
Organizers said community members expressed concern about employment, which caused leaders of 100 Fearless to coordinate a job fair.
The event happened at Paradise Cathedral Church. Employers in attendance included the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office, Carilion Clinic, Wells Fargo Bank and others. Employers said the event is one way to help the community.
"We talk about credit education. We want to make sure their spending habits are correct," said Deonia Jones, a Wells Fargo personal banker. "We want to make sure they are financially secure and sound and to make sure they a bank that will offer these educational tools to help them succeed."
The event took place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m..
Organizers said they provided a free lunch to allow people looking for a job to stay and talk with employers for as long as possible.
