Some stores opening on Thanksgiving; Many others staying closed

Heather Pelat, Media General – (MEDIA GENERAL) -- Best Buy, Macy's, Kohl's and J.C. Penney are among the stores that will open to anxious holiday shoppers on Thanksgiving Day.

TheBlackFriday.com has a list of about 30 stores planning to open on Thursday, Nov. 24.

J.C. Penney will kick off its Black Friday sale in stores at 3 p.m. Thursday, while Old Navy and Belk stores will open at 4 p.m.

Many others, including Macy's, Best Buy and Toys R Us, will open at 5 p.m. Kohl's, Michaels and Dick's Sporting Goods, among others, will kick off their Black Friday sales at 6 p.m.

While some stores are opening on Thanksgiving, many others are opting to stay closed, giving their employees the time to spend the holiday with their families.

BestBlackFriday.com has a running list of more than 50 national retailers keeping their doors closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Employees of GameStop, Home Depot, hhgregg, Lowes, Costco, Nordstrom, PetSmart, Publix and TJ Maxx are among those who will be staying home on turkey day.
