(WSLS 10) - This week is National Collection Week for the Samaritan's Purse project Operation Christmas Child. Donors will fill shoe boxes with school supplies, hygiene items and toys. Those boxes will be delivered to children in need around the world. There are seven collection sites in the region.

The driver that police say is responsible for a fatal hit-and-run in Pittsylvania County will be in court today for a preliminary hearing. Courtney Davis was arrested in September for felony hit-and-run, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and driving on a suspended license. State Police says that Davis' car hit a man who was walking on the side of the road. She then abandoned the car and ran away.

Leaf collection begins in Roanoke today. Crews will collect bagged leaves that are place in biodegradable paper leaf bags. Place the bags on the curb and they will be picked up on your normal trash collection day. The city will also collect leaves the week of November 28th and December 12th.

Several groups in the Roanoke Valley hold a Global Entrepreneur Workshop today. It is geared toward people looking to start a business or are a current business owner. The agenda includes guidelines for starting a business, marketing strategies and financing. It starts at 8 a.m. at the Vinton War Memorial.

Today is the deadline to submit an application for fuel assistance to the Campbell County Department of Social Services. The Energy Assistance Program gives money to help low-income households meet their home energy needs. To qualify, a one person household must have monthly income of less than $1,287 with a four person home having income less than $2,633.

Advance Auto Parts will report third quarter financial results after markets close today. The company will also host an invitation only meet and greet with management in New York.

A three day design workshop begins today as part of the "Reimagine 419" project. Earlier this year, Roanoke County began studying the area around Tanglewood Mall. The study will help leaders build a master plan for development. At today's workshop, the planning team will talk about comments and reactions received.

Governor Terry McAuliffe continues a trade mission today to the Pacific Rim. During the 10 day marketing mission, the governor and his economic development team will take part in about sixty meetings in an effort to bolster Virginia's export industry and promote the Commonwealth as a business friendly environment.
