Pulaski County investing in its fire and rescue stations

PULASKI (WSLS 10) - Pulaski County is spending nearly $1 million to make its fire and EMS stations better equipped for emergencies.

The Snowville Volunteer Fire Department will be replaced with a new $700,000 building next year. The current station is more than 40 years old.

The Twin Community Volunteer Fire Department is getting additions to house a new tanker truck, which will help respond to areas with no fire hydrant access.

Plans are still in the works to move Station 5 in the town of Pulaski. The goal is to find a larger building away from the train tracks. The trains now pose concerns about possible delayed response time.

"Rescue, fire, EMS, all that is extremely important," said assistant Pulaski County administrator Anthony Akers. "It could be a matter of lives saved, so you can't put a price tag on that."

The county's board of supervisors will discuss Station 5 plans later this month. The Twin Community project is scheduled to be finished early next year.
