“Week of the Family” focuses on strengthening family ties


ROANOKE (WSLS 10)- Strengthening family ties, November 13, 2016 marks the first day of “Week of the Family” in Roanoke County.

ARCH, Children’s Trust and Prevention Council of Roanoke County will host the week from November 13 – November 19, 2016.

The week is all about bettering the lives of children by strengthening their families and the communities they live in.

The Week of the Family focuses on connecting local families to economic opportunities, social networks, and other services.

The City of Roanoke, Roanoke County, and the City of Salem will all be celebrating.

ARCH, Children’s Trust and Prevention Council of Roanoke County is holding events to reach out to families in the area.

  • · Wednesday, November 16, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM, Va. Tech/Carilion Medical School – Community Chat
  • · Thursday, November 17, Eat Dinner Together – restaurants will offer discounts for families eating dinner together
  • · Saturday, November 19, Railyard Dawgs will host a special family
  • · Family Night Out Packages will be up for grabs during the week

Week of the Family was founded in 1978 by Sam Wiley, a former teacher and administrator from Indianapolis.
