Marching Virginians raising money to help St. Jude Children’s Hospital

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) – The Marching Virginians spend most of their time on the sidelines supporting the Hokies.

Now the band is throwing its support behind curing childhood cancer.

The Virginia Tech band is asking fans to donate to Marching Virginians for St. Jude. They’re one of only four bands nationwide raising money and awareness.

Band director Dave McKee said students give back frequently not for recognition, but because they care.

“All of these kids, none of whom are on scholarship, do this because they love it and if I can help show them how giving to something like St. Jude matters now and being part of an organization that takes on projects like this, maybe down the road they’re going to be willing to do that in their community,” said McKee.

James Madison, Clemson and the University of Houston are the other bands take part in Marching for St. Jude.
