Danville residents pay tribute to veterans

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) – People took advantage of the nice weather on Friday and visited Danville’s Veterans Memorial and paid their respects.

The memorial’s large wall is inscribed with the names of Danville and Pittsylvania County veterans from the Revolutionary War up through today.

Bricks on the walkway around the memorial are also inscribed with the names of veterans and each bench at the memorial has been dedicated to a veteran.

“It makes you proud. Those people on the wall, some of them died in battle some of them died after they got out of the military,” said Vietnam Era Army Veteran Jerry Emerson. “It makes you proud that those people fought for what you have today.”

Bricks can be purchased and placed at the memorial for $125.
