Troopers working to identify driver after Moneta tractor-trailer crash

BEDFORD COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A body has been found at the site of this morning's tractor-trailer crash, according to state police. Troopers are working to identify the driver.

Neighbors say they're shocked that a crash happened just feet away from their home on Thursday morning on Route 122 near Morgans Church Road in Moneta.

Firefighters say the tractor-trailer crashed into the building and fell into its basement. State police say no one was inside at time of crash. The building was used as offices for Smith Mountain Lake Good Neighbors Inc.

Fire crews were on site monitoring the scene in case any flames sparked up.

One neighbor, Benjamin Gillis said, "We heard them bounce across the front yard and we thought maybe it had been a crew working on the pipeline and woke us up and the neighbor came down and knocked on the door and let us know the house next door was on fire."

Neighbors say they've seen accidents happen in the curve.

VDOT had to block traffic on Route 122 and detours were setup for part of the day.
