Sheriff's office: Man shot, killed after forcing way into Henry County home

HENRY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - An Eden, N.C. man is dead after deputies say he was shot and killed after forcing his way into a Henry County home on Thursday.

At 4:40 a.m., 28-year-old Michael Graves, of Eden, who had been shot, was taken to Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden. Upon his arrival, he was pronounced dead.

Deputies from the Henry County Sheriff's Office were already at the hospital investigating an unrelated incident.

It was quickly determined that Graves was shot while at 2052 Stoney Mountain Road in Martinsville. When deputies arrived there, they say they discovered damage to the front door and several bullet holes in the home.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Graves and his brother, Charles Rydell Flood Jr. had driven to that home and after arriving, Graves forced his way into the home and was shot during a confrontation with one of the occupants, according to the sheriff's office.

After Graves had been shot, deputies say Flood fired multiple rounds from a handgun into the home.

Flood has been charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was jailed without bond.

An autopsy will be performed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia.
