Virginia Tech hosts 'Frenemies Day' to help heal after election

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) -  Virginia Tech aimed to help people heal in a creative way after Tuesday's divisive presidential election.

Dr. Todd Schenk, an Assistant Professor in the Urban Affairs and Planning Program of the School of Public and International Affairs at Virginia Tech, declared Wednesday as "Frenemies Day."

It was a chance for voters with opposing views to come together for a face-to-face discussion. The goal was to provide a better platform for idea exchange than just social media.

This comes after people reported defriending or unfollowing people on Facebook and Twitter because of political differences during the election season.

Organizers plan to soon host discussions about the transgender bathroom debates.
